Kontorovich<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Alexey Kontorovich<\/strong> was born on January 28, 1934 in Kharkov. In 1956 he graduated from Tomsk State University. He matured into a prominent scientist in the Siberian Research Institute of Geology, Geophysics and Mineral Resources under the USSR Geology Ministry where he worked his way up from an engineer to Deputy Director for Research. Since 1989 Alexey Kontorovich worked for the Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences as Deputy Director of the Geology and Geophysics Institute (1989\u20131992) and Deputy Director of the Geology Institute (1992\u20131997).<br> From 1997 to 2006 \u2013 founder and Director of the Institute of Oil and Gas Geology, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences; from 2006 to 2007 \u2013 Trofimuk Institute of Petroleum Geology and Geophysics, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. At present, he is Scientific Adviser at the latter Institute. <br> In 1991 Alexey Kontorovich was elected Acting Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences.<br> Alexey Kontorovich is a world-renowned expert in oil and gas geology, organic chemistry and mathematical geology. He made a great contribution to the oil formation theory, the oil and gas content theory and quantitative forecast methods, the prospecting and exploration activities theory and techniques, the petroleum industry economics, scientific substantiation and discovery of the Western Siberian, Leno-Tungusskaya, Khatangsko-Vilyuiskaya petroleum provinces, theoretical justification and discovery of the Precambrian oil. He accomplished comprehensive studies on global and regional petroleum resources estimation.<br> He takes a pro-active approach to tackling the strategic issues of the socioeconomic development of Russia, primarily the nation\u2019s fuel and energy sector, programs for feedstock base buildup in the oil and gas industries and the strategy for shaping new oil and gas production provinces.<br> He is among the main creators of the federally-approved Strategy for Economic Progress in Siberia, Russian Energy Strategy, as well as the Strategy for Socioeconomic Development of Tomsk Oblast in First Decades of 21st Century which identifies the priorities and development prospects of the region. Alexey Kontorovich is in constant touch with the Office of the Plenipotentiary Envoy of the Russian Federation President to the Siberian Federal Okrug, Russian Ministries, Administrations of the Yamal-Nenets and Khanty-Mansiysk Autonomous Okrugs, the Krasnoyarsk and Altai Krais, the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), the Irkutsk, Kemerovo, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Tomsk, Tyumen Oblasts on issues of socioeconomic development in Russian regions, subsurface resources use, geological exploration, oil and gas industries advancement, staff training. <br> Alexey Kontorovich has been awarded the Order for the Services to the Fatherland )Class IV), the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Honor, the Medal for Labor Merit, the Medal for Natural Resources Exploitation, the Medal for Oil and Gas Industry Development in Western Siberia and the Labor Veteran Medal. In 2007 he received an acknowledgement letter from Russian President Vladimir Putin. He has been awarded the following titles: Merited Geologist of the USSR, Honored Subsurface Explorer, Honored Gas Worker. Alexey Kontorovich has been entitled to the Russian State Prize, the Russian Federation Government Prize, Kosygin Prize, Baibakov Prize, Muravlenko Prize, the Prize of the Gubkin Academy of Sciences (USSR), he was granted the Triumph and Demidovskaya Prizes and the USSR VDNKh Medals.
