Gurami E. Odisharia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gurami Odisharia<\/strong> was born on December 19, 1936 in Georgia (USSR).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1958 he graduated from Gubkin Moscow Oil Institute majoring in Exploration and Development of Oil and Gas Fields. In 1967 he defended his PhD thesis and in 1982 \u2013 became Doctor of Engineering. In 1985 he was conferred the academic rank of Professor. He is a member of the Academic Councils under Gazprom VNIIGAZ and Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas. Between 1975 and 2003 he was a member of the Liquefied Gases Section of the International Gas Union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gurami Odisharia is the author of more than 150 research publications and 5 monographs on hydrodynamics of gas-liquid flows, risk analysis and operations safety. He was rewarded by the RSFSR Council of Ministers and Gazprom. He received the Badge of Honor Order and the Peoples\u2019 Friendship Order.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From 1958 up to date Gurami Odisharia has been employed at VNIIGAZ \u2013 present Gazprom VNIIGAZ. The ideas and designs of this research institute were widely used in the Soviet Union gas industry. Most of the nation\u2019s largest gas and condensate fields are being developed under the projects elaborated by this institute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Yamal project debuted in the 1970s when it was planned to construct a new gas pipeline to Europe. Sabit Orudzhev, Minister of the USSR Gas Industry thought the export gas pipeline running to Europe had to begin in Yamal where giant gas fields had been discovered. However, due to the very complex geocryological structure of the Yamal Peninsula, the absence of any local infrastructure and workforce as well as the very tight construction timeframe, it was decided to start the new export gas pipeline construction from the pre-developed Nadym-Pur-Taz resource region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the second half of the 1980s the idea revived to commercially develop resources in the Yamal Peninsula and adjacent offshore areas. From 1986 to 1989 the USSR Gas Industry Ministry adopted the advanced research program unprecedented in the national practice and aimed at developing a new resource region \u2013 the Yamal Peninsula. The Gas Industry Ministry order charged VNIIGAZ to coordinate the project and provide general scientific management of the program. Gurami Odisharia was appointed head of research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He was responsible for the most vital program elements: developing environmentally safe technologies and equipment to produce gas and condensate in the Yamal Peninsula, introducing nature conservation measures, highly efficient and greener technologies and techniques of gas transmission via the Yamal \u2013 West pipeline system that crosses the Baidarata Bay and elaborating scientific, methodological and engineering solutions for gas trunklines to cross water bodies. Under this program special attention was given to working out the Concept of Natural Resources Use and Socio-Economic Development of Yamal Peninsula based on community (indigenous people) sustainability principles implicating fair and sufficient resource distribution in time and through generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At present, outcomes of the research and engineering activities headed by Gurami Odisharia are used for the Yamal fields development and the Bovanenkovo \u2013 Ukhta gas pipeline construction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today Gurami Odisharia is an adviser to Gazprom VNIIGAZ Director General Pavel G. Tsybulsky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
